The author shows himself to have a great understanding of human psychology. During tough times, we tend to think we are all alone in the world and that no one can understand. We need others around us that have been through the struggle. (Alcoholics Anonymous for example.) One way to do this is to understand what Christ has gone through and the “great crowd of witnesses” that have persevered in the faith.
